Georgia: Tbilisi (10/10) /
Culture Shock
I had been well warned, but the real experience
was far more dreadful. The biggest culture shock and the danger
was indeed the infamous "Lethal Driving in Caucasus."
In short, the pedestrians have no rights whatsoever.
This sounds simple enough, but when you're actually out there trying
to cross a road, any road, it's far more frightening.
The cars just don't slow down. In fact, it seems
they speed up when they see you. A traveler friend said he had truly
believed they were deliberately trying to kill him, and it really
feels that way.
Even when you have the pedestrian light, you have
to watch out for the cars turning the curve. They come right at
you, and it doesn't matter if you are a woman, foreigner, elder
or whatever.
This was true both in Armenia and Georgia, but
it was more troublesome in Tbilisi since the city was much bigger
and there were very few traffic lights. (Even if they'd had lights,
the city experienced daily blackouts and would have been no use.)
I did witness a dog crossing the 6-lane main street
with such an ease...

Killermobile:
Lada (but actually they're very charming and I'd love to have one
of these. )
